Trial of Fire Weekend
Ready to rank up? Are you sure? If you answered no to the last question, you have already failed. (Confidence is important!) This trip is meant to test your skills, find your flaws (nobody's perfect), and set the world record for the hugest flames on an exploding stove.
So, what is a Trial of Fire anyways? Not content with normal BSA advancement procedures, Troop 8 developed a diabolical campout designed to test scouts to the limit of what they should know, in the worst case scenario. Advancement occurs in three levels, aptly named levels 1, 2, and 3, whose requrements are loosely based on the official BSA requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class. These skills will be put to the test on a real campout, instead of some silly meeting with a Scoutmaster.
The Trial of Fire is open to invitation only, so if your patrol leader believes you ready, he will invite you. Scouts will be required to demonstrate skills they should be able to do anyways, from things like cooking, to first aid, to really important skills such as the proper technique for roasting a marshmallow. Invitations will be coming out as it gets closer.
Because this is an active field test through Sunday a.m., Sunday morning mass participation may not be possible. Please make plans for Sunday services on your return. Expected return time is mid-late afternoon on Sunday.
