Canoe Night I

The troop 8 canoeing sequence is one of the most fun sequences we do all year. But, in order for you to be able to participate in the more adventurous trips, you have to learn the basics at our canoeing meetings. Knowing how to canoe will make the overnight trips far more fun. The focus of this first meeting is learning the basic strokes of flat water canoeing. However, in order for it to be safe for us to bring you out on the water you will need to be swim checked. If this is not the case please contact a trip leader.

As for what you should bring, we will be out on the water and likely in the water for over an hour. In order to be prepared for this make sure to bring sunscreen if you need it, clothes you can get wet, a towel to dry off afterwards, and a bag to keep your stuff in while we canoe.

Everyone should come on these meetings if you can make the unusual time of 5-7:30 PM at the gallup canoe livery. There will be a place for you whatever your skill level is now. If you have gone on the canoeing trips in past years we would really appreciate you coming to help instruct the younger scouts.
