Swim Night 5
NOTE DIFFERENT DAY - MOVED TO THURSDAY, APRIL 12
NOTE DIFFERENT LOCATION - FORSYTHE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Tonight is swim night round 5! Yes, the pool at Clague last time was cold... but we've been assured that won't be a problem this time.
This meeting is a golden opportunity to work on Swimming Merit Badge or if you already have Swimming Merit badge you can work on Lifesaving Merit Badge. We want to do some awesome water sports stuff later in the summer, including some whitewater rafting at summer camp and a big canoe trip in June. But we can only do that if everyone's comfortable around water, and preferably getting pretty good at swimming. This is a great chance to kick up (haha) your swimming ability a couple notches, or learn some new lifesaving skills. So whether you're the swim team captain or you don't know what the front crawl is, come on out!
Participation in these meetings is required for the canoeing trips and summer camp, but you should come anyway because it'll be lots of fun and you'll learn something, or help teach someone if you already know what you're doing! If you're new to swimming, we'll set you up with an instructor to learn and practice your strokes, so you can pass your swim test! If you can pass the swim test (100 yards of swimming), you'll work on mastering dives, survival floats, and perhaps other exotic strokes, like the double trudgen. Once you do that, you'll get to practice your lifesaving skills, from simple throw ropes to c-spine back-boarding. Don't worry about the weather, we'll be at a heated indoor pool. The meeting starts at 7:20 as usual, but be sure to be there on time as we want to optimize our pool time. You will need a bathing suit and towel to swim (please no speedos).
Especially if you are pursuing swimming or lifesaving merit badges (which is highly encouraged), participating in all 7 meetings is borderline required. Otherwise you miss information and skills that the rest of the group learned at the previous meeting. The skills you aquire at these meetings are necessary for the water sequence in the spring and are tons of fun anyways, so come out and join in the awesomeness!
