The scouters of Troop 8 are the bunch of mentors and outdoor crazies who are willing to subject themselves to rain, snow, mosquitos, storms, more rain... all to help the youth leaders put together a great outdoor program for all the scouts. Scouters range from young Troop 8 alumni to members of the parish and community to parents who enjoy being outdoors with kids. They're screened by us, and trained by the BSA, the St. Thomas parish program, and the university's Outdoor Adventure program in youth protection, wilderness first aid, and outdoor leadership skills.
Steve has been with the troop since 1997, in a variety of roles as a scout and adult - everything from PL to QM to SPL to ASM and now Scoutmaster. When he's not out with the troop, Steve works for U-M as a neuroscience researcher studying brain activity related to drug abuse.
Bob Geier is a long-time professional educator, having taught high school science and math, serving as a school administrator, state policy director, and now working at UM's School of Education. Trained by the National Outdoor Leadership School, he's been working with the St. Thomas scouting programs for almost 20 years on four continents and 15 states/provinces.
Seth joined Troop 8 as a 6th grader in 1999. After participating in several venture trips including - ice climbing in Munising, MI, cycling in Denmark, rock climbing in Red Rocks, NV, and sailing in the Windward Islands - Seth received his Eagle Scout award in 2007. Currently, Seth continues to help out the Troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster, and practices dentistry in Bay City, MI.
Jason was a scout in Troop 8 for seven years, from 2008 to 2015. He is unsure if he is actually an Assistant Scoutmaster, but at this point is too afraid to ask. (edit: apparently he is not, as he has not filled out the requisite paperwork. Alas.) Jason is a student at the University of Michigan, studying everything from English Language and Literature, to Ecology, and Russian, and hopes that all of that will somehow get him into medical school. When he grows up, he hopes to be a pediatrician, as he likes working with children. (Hence his continuing involvement with Troop 8.)
Colin has been with Troop 8 since he was a sixth grader, participating in several venture expeditions and earning his Eagle Scout award. He is currently in Oregon pursuing his Masters degree.

He lives on the Huron River just outside of Ann Arbor and stays busy with various unpaid or poorly paid jobs while his wife brings home the bacon, and he spends the rest of his time being a bad example.
